Salary & Compensation Comparison

Money is a primary driver in high-threat contracting, and both paths offer excellent earning potential that far outpaces domestic security or standard military pay. However, the payment structures vary:

• WPS (State Department): Typically offers higher base day rates for personal security details (PSD). Because roles heavily feature VIP protection and specialized movement security, a qualified static guard or PSD operator can expect anywhere from $500 to $750+ per day ($15,000 to $22,000+ per month) depending on the threat matrix of the deployment zone.

• GPS (Department of Defense): Tends to run slightly lower on the entry-level static or tower guard end, ranging from $300 to $500 per day ($9,000 to $15,000 per month). However, compensation climbs sharply for specialized roles, such as Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) handlers, specialized mechanics, and high-level logistics or security management.

Note: For both tracks, a massive perk for U.S. nationals is the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE), allowing you to potentially earn a significant portion of your overseas income entirely tax-free.
